On People's opinions and depth of thinking ...

I know I am quite thought provoking and instigate debates on a daily basis.
I do not like to see myself as a trouble maker because I would like to think I am making a constructive contribution to society by engaging others in discussing every day topics.

In recent days I have published a number of comments on Facebook, be it about the Pope publicly apologizing for abuses from The Church, the meaning of the French revolution or How children should or not dress up... I absolutely love getting a reaction from across the planet to whatever I write, so keep it coming!

The idea behind putting this on my blogg going forward is to be able to reach a wider audience, but also to be able to one day getting my memoirs going...

Now today I wanted to debate whether or not people should be entitled to express freely their opinions, whether one should be an expert on any given topic before expressing one's opinions, how deep should one be, and who defines the validity or depth of their arguments.

The reason being that I have come across a number of individuals who claim to be intellectuals and therefore to own the truth and often reminded me I needed to go deeper before being entitled to have an opinion on a topic. Oh and having statistics and figures to support my arguments.
Really? So should we all become PhD students on every topic on the planet before being able to discuss anything?
Really? Should we only listen to arguments based on empirical statistical one sided conventional view just because that is seen as rational by one side of the population, often a minority?

Sounds to me we are going back to the Dark Ages where only a few nobles and churchmen were entitled to be intelligent because they spent time researching and reading ...

How about listening and trusting one's gut feelings, how about basing our views on basic human right morals of tolerance and respect, how about what "feels", yes "feels" right or wrong? How about giving voice to the general population, that common sense that has been around for centuries, through stories, folklore tales, those who actually live life?

Why does everything need to be constructed in an empirical manner, and who owns that ultimate truth? Who is right and who is wrong, and based on what set of values?

Let me know if this makes sense and what you think of it?
Do you feel you are entitled to having an opinion? Do you feel you can freely express it?
Does it matter?

I look forward to hearing from you!
