What can one do to change the world?

So 3 years later, here we are again... My blog revival and the American elections.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, these elections are important as they dictate what happens in the rest of the planet. The hope this man brought on us seems to have been lost for a number of reasons, but then again, I guess we must have been naive, and maybe so was he?, to have thought for a second that 1 man could change the corrupted, diabolic and cruel system we call the western democracy in 4 simple years. Why would he or anyone be allowed to make this world a fairer place? I mean, this would mean asking the 1% to be less well off.

On the positive front though, people movements have started to spread in the 4 corners of our planet. Not only the Arab Spring, but in the Occupy movements, the Indignados etc. The internet and globalization have given us the perfect tools to educate ourselves on everything. This is a great reason for celebration.

Can I therefore please beg that my friends, family, acquaintances please stop asking questions such as: what can I do at my individual level to change what is happening. Well it is ever so simple: change yourself. Without consumers and clients, no company, no corporation, no bank on this planet can achieve anything, neither steal our money nor make disgusting amounts of profits for themselves without producing anything useful for society, (and no, corporate social responsibility are not doing it). Each single piece of clothes, furniture, food, material etc of every single brand or non brand we buy, gives a clear message to the suppliers and to the world: I approve of you and I want more of it. So if you want less of it, then make different choices. That simple.

I was asked the question recently "can we have it all?". Have what all? What is this concept that we must want "it" all?! My answer was and remains: it all depends on choices, your choices, what do you want from your life, what type of person do you want to be, what values do you have. That simple.

Final thoughts for tonight, how much time (and money) do you spend in celebrity TV shows, magazines, tabloids etc vs doing something useful (not necessarily tedious!) and real such as seeing friends, learning to cook, reading books, getting involved in the local community, learning an instrument, walking in nature, and if nothing else ... THINKING? That simple.

Simple may mean hard work, so again, another choice to make. That simple.

Good night!
